Guidelines for Fair Use of Electronic Resources
The Central Library of Jadavpur University subscribes electronic resources, such as electronic databases, electronic journals and electronic books for the students, teachers, researchers and staffs for the research and for study and teaching. Besides the subscription, eShodhSindhu, a consortium for higher education by Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India provides access to qualitative electronic resources including full-text, bibliographic and factual databases. The resources of Jadavpur University by eShodhSindhu can be found from https://www.inflibnet.ac.in/ess/eres.php?memID=14.
An individual (user) can use these resources for academic purpose only. Users should not use the resources for commercial purpose.
The resources can be viewed, downloaded and printed. Downloading the entire issue of a journal or a complete book in a single session or from a definite IP assigned system (known as systematic download) is strictly prohibited. Doing so, the publisher may locate the locations (IPs) from where the systematic download has occurred, and they may block accessing the resource to the University. The defaulter will be penalized. Use of robots, spiders or any intelligent agents to access or to download any resource is also prohibited.
The terms and conditions for using the resources are mentioned in electronic resource license agreements with each publisher. Licenses may vary from publisher to publisher. The resources provided by eShodhSindhu are governed by license agreements by the Consortium. Please go through the ‘License Agreements and Guidelines for Fair Use’ mentioned by eShodhSindhu (https://www.inflibnet.ac.in/ess/licences.php). It is the responsibility of individual users to ensure that the use of electronic resources does not breach the terms and conditions specified in the license agreements. However, the general principles are as follows:
View, download, copy, print and save a copy of search results. | Use of robots or intelligent agents to do systematic, bulk or automatic download is not permitted. |
View, download, copy, print and save individual article. | Systematic download or print of entire journal issues or volumes, or large portions of other e-resources is not permitted. |
Use of e-resources for the research and for study and teaching purposes. | Use of e-resources for the research and for study and teaching purposes. Use of e-resources for commercial gain is not permitted. |
Send a copy of an article to another authorized user (i.e. current faculty, students or staff). | Disseminate or otherwise making online content available to unauthorized users. |
Post the URL to the publisher's version of the article on a class website. | Post the publisher's version or PDF of an article to an open class website is not permitted. |
These terms are also applicable for using the electronic resources through Remote Access.
